Emil Eva Rosina

I spend most of my working time developing semantic theories – mostly of attitude reports and plurality – based on natural language typology and online studies.

I am employed as a postdoctoral researcher at Masaryk University in Brno, Czechia, in a project on the cross-linguistic morpho-semantics of adverbial quantifiers. This means that we investigate what the building blocks of phrases like English ‘every time’ or ‘always’ are across languages.

Previously, I worked in projects on conjunction (like ‘and’), individual quantification (like ‘every’ or ‘all’), and memory reports (like ‘I remember…’). I did my PhD on memory reports in a philosophical project at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, and intend to continue publishing in philosophy of memory, philosophy of language, and especially philosophy of the language of memory.

I realize that this academic biography may seem a bit all over the place, but the dual focus on plural semantics and semantics/philosophy of attitudes makes a lot of sense to me: How we linguistically represent parts and pluralities of events influences which attitudes towards them we attribute (because of compositionality). Moreover, both fields relate to non-linguistic cognition and to inter-individual and contextual variation in ways that intrigue me. AND both adverbial quantification and remembering have to do with temporal ontology! <3

I have a background in analytic philosophy and a tiny bit in psychology. I enjoy the conceptual clarification required by interdisciplinary work. I value political applications of my work and think a lot about grounding assumptions, methodology and epistemology.
